Dotster Will Still Go a Long Way – A Review
Dotster is actually a newbie in the world of web hosting but has already conquered the 10th best web host place. Not that bad for a newbie, but of course like beginners they still have a lot more to improve, with the so many web hosts providing more than what they can actually offer, Dotster will surely be behind if they remain at ease.
In general, control and support wise, Dotster can be smart choice. But features? Well Dotster has not yet much to offer in terms of features, in fact Dotster only offers 5 GB of disk space and 250 GB of bandwidth. Of course, if you are a paying customer you will surely go for web hosts that can give you more disk space and bandwidth that what Dotster can only offer.
Primary Features
- Free domain
- Free site builder
- Online marketing
- Good support group
- VPS Hosting
Other Features
- WHOIS Privacy
- SSL Certificates
Value for Money
Essentially, the Starter plan costs $5.25 per month for 5 GB disk space and 250 GB of bandwidth and 10 email accounts. The price is not too high actually but when compared to prices of some web hosting companies ranging from $5-$6 offering 300 GB of disk space and 3000 GB of bandwidth, then Dotster will seem something as expensive.
And value for money? Well right now, Dotster can’t actually be considered as one web host that can give good value for your money, unless Dotster cut their price in half, or start adding some disk space, bandwidth and some other features.
Dependability
Dotster company is actually located in Vancouver, Washington, but its data center is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Basically, its data center is equipped with proper facilities that would protect the servers and the top of the line equipments which are important during online operations.
There are also some data and power back up systems to make sure everything runs well. Not only that, fiber optic connections through Qwest, Eli, and Cox are also used, and not to mention the 99.9% uptime and faster bandwidth scaling with the internet backbone providers.
Controls and Support
It is said that the edge of Dotster is all in their controls and support. But how can you call it an edge when most of your competitors do also have what you claim your edge?
Essentially, Dotster uses the most popular Linux based cPanel with notable features like icon-based, user-friendly most especially to beginners of website creation, etc. In terms of their support, Dotster also has the same way most web hosting companies do – technical support through telephone, e-mail and dedicated lines available anytime of the day or night.
They also provide customer support through their FAQs’ section. However, Dotster doesn’t have a live chat that most customers find efficient.
Dotster – In General
As a whole, Dotster will still go a long long way. They will be needing a lot of improvements particularly on their features, and in return will also be needing a lot of resources. These will take some time indeed, but if they want to stay competitive from the rest of their web hosts competitors well then they have no choice but be patient and have innovations one step at a time.
